He loves her. She doesn't love him. But she loves him, and can't show it. What sounds like a heartbreaking tragedy with a fatal ending inspired William Shakespeare to write a comedy with depth.

Violetta is washed ashore in Illyria after a shipwreck. Disguised as a man, she arrives at the court of Duke Orsino under the name Cesario. The Duke has long been courting Countess Olivia, but she remains unmoved. Orsino instructs Cesario to continue wooing the proud Countess on his behalf each day, and what must happen does. Olivia falls in love with Cesario, who (or rather, who) is already head over heels for Orsino. When Viola's twin brother, thought to be drowned, suddenly appears in Illyria, and the steward Malvolio also begins to harbour hopes for Olivia, the carousel of love and the absurdly comic chaos that comes with it can no longer be stopped.

Shakespeare deftly plays with mistaken identities, love, disappointments, and the challenges of identity and gender roles. The incomparably enchanting atmosphere of the summer stage by the deep lake will captivate the audience just as much as the comedy itself.
