EDGUY
Fuldaer Dom, Germany
The story began in February 1992, when four students from Fulda formed a band. Driven by youthful passion, the quartet (Tobias Sammet, Jens Ludwig, Dirk Sauer, and drummer Dominik Storch) named the band after their physics teacher's nickname - EDGUY was born!
And right at the beginning of the nineties, when classical rock and metal were written off as dead, they decided to venture out into the world and conquer the hearts of a new generation of fans across the globe.
Over 25 years of activity, Edguy have not only built a large and loyal fanbase worldwide, but also shaped their own instantly recognizable style without forcing themselves into a rigid pattern. Sammet explains what it takes for an Edguy song or album: "You need distorted guitars, thundering drums, catchy melodies, plenty of wit, a Falco song, some colorful glam elements, nine-minute epics about the immortality of the soul in the style of Led Zeppelin, or even a discourse on the sexual drive of cave people. Then you mix it all together, record it in the studio, and put a wild Evel Knievel devil with a mustache on the cover..."
Because Tobias Sammet has devoted himself primarily to his second project, Avantasia, in recent years, Edguy has not performed live since 2017. But now the band has decided to embark on a major farewell tour next year.
