With remarkable thoroughness, Rether weaves together the current and the forgotten, the near and the distant - questioning, disputing, doubting. He shakes the central tenets of Western "civilisation" to their core, exposing so-called objective constraints as collective fictions ripe for ridicule. Through unexpected comparisons, he coaxes the audience into shifting their perspective - seeing the world differently, looking toward the future, into the mirror, and squarely at uncomfortable truths. He also calls on us to free ourselves from the fear and anger that are so often weaponised against us.

Rether's LIEBE is tragic, comic, painful and contagious: a constantly evolving programme under the same unchanging title, it breeds lasting dissatisfaction with easy answers and encourages independent thought and action. For up to three and a half hours, the cabaret artist makes a passionate case for reason and compassion, against hypocrisy and the complacency of consumerism - change is possible, if we want it.
