KRAFTVOLL. Musica Viva brings together three exceptional audience favourites in one special double concert: the Barbican Quartet - winners of the 1st Prize at the ARD Musikwettbewerb 2022 - the Hamburg-based Kaiserquartett, and popular TV star Sebastian Ströbel. Together they trace a line from the origins of the string quartet to the present day, showing just how vital, adaptable and powerful the genre remains.
The first part is shaped by the internationally acclaimed Barbican Quartet, performing works by Joseph Haydn, the founding father of the form. More than two hundred and fifty years later, the Kaiserquartett picks up the idea of four equal voices and carries it forward with original compositions that sit on the boundary between classical and pop. Between the musical sets, Sebastian Ströbel reads selected texts, adding another layer to the evening.
Both concerts can be attended separately or experienced together as a double bill. Those who choose both parts will follow an extraordinary arc spanning two and a half centuries of music history.
