A glittering city, student life, dreams of the future: in the cold Parisian winter air unfolds a story of love, friendship, and the struggle between youthful idealism and the disappointment of an empty cupboard. Puccini clothed the nostalgic tone of the libretto in a rich, sumptuous score featuring lyrical duets and ensembles whose outstanding quality audiences recognized shortly after the world premiere in 1896. In four musical scenes, Puccini captures the poetry of everyday life for young people in the big city, employing refined musical means. Through the finest orchestral colouring, he brings to the stage various social milieus and the exuberance of youthful love.
The performance in Italian with German supertitles promises a brilliant start to the new season! The Pforzheim Theatre is guest performing as part of "Städteoper Südwest", supported by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
