Das Feuerschiff - Siegfried Lenz / Stage Adaptation by Michael Uhl / Part 1 aboard the lightship "Norderney"
Bontekai Wilhelmshaven, Germany
A lightship holds its fixed position at sea to guide other vessels - if that signal were to fail, the consequences would be catastrophic. During its final watch, a lightship in the Baltic takes on board the crew of a vessel in distress. But the men turn out to be three armed gangsters who make impossible demands of Captain Freytag and his crew. Freytag wants to resolve the situation peacefully, without the lightship abandoning its post - but the other side refuses to back down...
Michael Uhl, who has previously directed FEUER AUS DEN KESSELN and the interactive radio play MARSCH DER MATROSEN for the Landesbühne, now adapts the novella DAS FEUERSCHIFF by Siegfried Lenz (1926-2014). As in his earlier locally rooted work, he brings meticulous research to the production.
In cooperation with the Küstenmuseum Wilhelmshaven, the first part of the evening takes place as a site-specific performance: the audience experiences the prologue on board the lightship "Norderney", which is moored at the Bontekai as part of the museum's permanent collection. The staging is adapted accordingly to this unique space.
