Das Feuerschiff - Siegfried Lenz / Stage Adaptation by Michael Uhl / Part 1 on Board the Lightship "Norderney" — Bontekai Wilhelmshaven, Wilhelmshaven

A lightship holds a fixed position at sea, guiding other vessels through open waters. If that signal were to fail, the consequences would be dire. On its final watch, a lightship anchored in the Baltic takes aboard the crew of a boat in distress - only for the men to turn out to be three armed gangsters who make impossible demands of Captain Freytag and his crew. Freytag wants to resolve the standoff peacefully, without abandoning the ship's position - but the other side refuses to back down...

Michael Uhl, who has previously directed FEUER AUS DEN KESSELN and the interactive radio play MARSCH DER MATROSEN for the Landesbühne, is known for his meticulous research in locally rooted productions. Now he turns to an adaptation of Siegfried Lenz's novella DAS FEUERSCHIFF (1926-2014). In cooperation with the Küstenmuseum Wilhelmshaven, the first part of the evening will be staged as a site-specific performance: the audience will experience the prologue on board the lightship "Norderney", which lies at the Bontekai as part of the museum's permanent collection* - the tension of the high seas is guaranteed.
