Im Wandel der Zeit "Kammermusik am Meer" - Festival Ensemble / Yevgeny Sapozhnikov

The Festival Ensemble opens the new season with a special project: under the title "Im Wandel der Zeit" (In the Course of Time), a large ensemble - featuring voice, piano, harmonium, strings and winds - performs a programme that brings the diversity of European music around 1900 to life.

This era marked the peak of late Romanticism and the transition towards modernism. Some composers remained firmly rooted in the Romantic tradition, while others were already searching for new forms of expression, paving the way for the music of the 20th century. Names such as Johannes Brahms, César Franck, Gustav Mahler and Erich Wolfgang Korngold stand for this remarkable blending of eras, in which boundaries gradually dissolved and a new musical age took shape.
