Danceperados of Ireland - Life, love and lore of the Irish Travellers

In the programme "Life, Love and Lore of the Irish Travellers", Danceperados turn their gaze to the Irish nomads. Travellers are an isolated minority with unusual customs and rituals. Many know them from historical films, travelling with horses and caravans through the landscape. Superstition and family honour play a major role in their lives, as do dance and music. Some of Ireland's greatest musicians and dancers were or are "Travellers". Had the Irish nomads not held fast to their traditions even in times when their subculture was viewed as backward, Irish folk music might have vanished from the scene.
Like North American indigenous peoples, Travellers endured the loss of their way of life. Yet from this nomadic culture arose a unique musical force. Danceperados tell their story through moving songs, passionate dances and an impressive multimedia presentation. This unique combination of dance, music and visual elements creates an atmosphere that touches and inspires audiences.
Everything live - no tricks
Danceperados stand out from many other productions: here everything is played and danced live. No backing tracks, no stage illusions - instead, spontaneity, improvisation and genuine energy. The audience feels this authenticity immediately.
The ensemble brings together some of Ireland's finest dancers: collectively they hold over 40 World Dancing Champion and All-Ireland titles. Michael Donnellan is responsible for the choreography, himself a multiple world champion. Musical direction is led by accordion virtuoso Eimhin Liddy, accompanied by a quintet of award-winning musicians, including All Ireland Champions.
