How often does that one last screw bring a promising project crashing down? But it's in the nature of the hobby craftsman to never give up. After all, a self-built bed frame can always be repurposed into a pallet.

DIY enthusiasts are a breed apart. They fix pipes while standing on them, and don't always have all their freshly painted fence posts in a row. On Saturdays they flock in droves to pilgrimage sites with strange names like Toom or OBI, buying tools they can afford but barely operate - then head home to their hobby basements, perfectly content.

A tribute to the optimist who sands instead of sulks, builds instead of broods, and gets on with it instead of grumbling.
