When the Elbe Rises - The Power of Water
A two-hour walking tour along the Elbe from Fischmarkt to HafenCity, tracing Hamburg's flood defences - dykes, barriers and the story of the devastating 1962 storm surge.
Hamburg, Germany
The Altonaer Fischauktionshalle is a landmark red-brick hall on the Elbe waterfront in Hamburg-Altona, built in 1894. Originally the city's main fish auction house, it was converted into an event venue after the fish market moved out. Today it hosts concerts, club nights, trade fairs and private events, with its original iron-and-glass roof structure still intact.
