Hubert Selby Jr. was an American author known for his raw, unflinching portrayals of life on society's margins. He is best known for the novels Last Exit to Brooklyn (1964) and Requiem for a Dream (1978), the latter adapted into a film by Darren Aronofsky in 2000. His writing is marked by an experimental style and dark themes of addiction and despair.
