Creating an entirely new sound, Azymuth merged jazz-funk with sensual samba and forged their own extraordinary genre – "samba doido". This three-piece ensemble became one of the most influential pioneers of the Brazilian music scene and one of the longest-running jazz-funk collectives in the world. Fifty years after their formation, the trio has released over thirty albums and continues to perform with the same timeless energy as in their early days.

Their latest album Marca Passo marks an important milestone – the first full, autonomous studio release following the death of founder and drummer Ivan "Mamão" Contie (2023), and earlier keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami (2012). Alex Malheiros, the only remaining original member, views the continuation of Azymuth as his spiritual mission and a pillar of preserving their musical legacy. Supporting the band's sound is Dudu Viana on keyboards – a musician respected for his collaborations with Roberto Menescal, Marcos Valle, and João Bosco. On drums is Renato Massa, who has worked with Marcos Valle and Edu Motta, among others.
