Schumann's secular oratorio "Das Paradies und die Peri" tells the story of a Peri - a fallen angel cast out from paradise who now wanders through distant lands seeking the way back. The narrative revolves around repentance, redemption and longing for lost happiness; its literary source is Thomas Moore's collection of tales "Lalla Rookh".
The MDR-Rundfunkchor and MDR-Sinfonieorchester perform the work together with the named vocal soloists under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies.
