The Abduction of Europe
Instytut Teologiczno-Pastoralny im. św. Józefa S. Pelczara, Rzeszów, Poland
"The Abduction of Europe" by Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz is a farce pushed to the limits of the genre - the titular Europe stands before the audience stripped bare, literally divested of its costume. That costume was woven over centuries; the present day sees in it only rags for frivolous masquerades that lead nowhere - to emptiness, meaninglessness, and collapse.
The performance is bold and ruthlessly precise, and laughter quickly mingles with the bitterness of an accurate diagnosis of a culture drained of meaning, tradition, and values. The cast includes Małgorzata Mikołajczak, Lidia Sadowa, Marta Dylewska, Maciej Wyczański, Leszek Zduń, Robert Latusek, and Filip Orliński. Directed by Jarosław Gajewski. Produced by the Polish Classical Theatre.
