Charlotte and George Hay are seasoned actors whose best years are behind them. With a troupe full of colourful characters, they tour various cities, performing two starkly different shows: the comedy "Private Life" and the classic "Cyrano de Bergerac".

When they arrive in provincial Buffalo, they discover that a legendary film director is planning to attend their performance. Is this their last chance at fame? As you might expect - everything that can go wrong goes even worse.
