About

Charles Aznavour (1924-2018) was a French-Armenian singer-songwriter, actor and diplomat, widely regarded as one of the defining voices of 20th-century chanson. Born in Paris to Armenian immigrant parents, he launched his career alongside Édith Piaf and went on to record over 1,200 songs in nine languages, selling more than 200 million records worldwide. In 1998 CNN and Time Online named him Entertainer of the Century, and he later served as Armenia's ambassador to Switzerland and permanent delegate to the UN in Geneva.
