Charles Aznavour (1924-2018) was a French-Armenian singer-songwriter, actor and diplomat, widely regarded as one of the defining voices of 20th-century chanson. Born in Paris to Armenian immigrant parents, he launched his career alongside Édith Piaf and went on to record over 1,200 songs in nine languages, selling more than 200 million records worldwide. In 1998 CNN and Time Online named him Entertainer of the Century, and he later served as Armenia's ambassador to Switzerland and permanent delegate to the UN in Geneva.
Tahar Rahim won the César Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Aznavour in the 2024 biopic Monsieur Aznavour.
The biographical drama Monsieur Aznavour, directed by Mehdi Idir and Grand Corps Malade with Tahar Rahim in the title role, was released in French cinemas on 23 October 2024.
The film Monsieur Aznavour was acquired for distribution in 41 international territories upon its French release.
On what would have been Aznavour's 100th birthday (22 May 2024), the first trailer for the biopic Monsieur Aznavour was unveiled.
