About
Evoken are an American funeral doom/death metal band from Lyndhurst, New Jersey, active since 1992 (originally as Funereus, renamed Evoken in 1994). Regarded as pioneers of the US funeral doom scene alongside Thergothon and Esoteric, they have released seven full-length albums on labels including Avantgarde Music and Profound Lore Records. Their slow, suffocatingly heavy sound draws on death metal roots while building dense, cathedral-like atmospheres - albums like Antithesis of Light (2005) and Atra Mors (2012) are considered landmarks of the genre.
