KRS-One (born Lawrence Krisna Parker, August 20, 1965, Brooklyn, NY) is an American rapper, MC and hip-hop philosopher who rose to prominence as co-founder of Boogie Down Productions in the mid-1980s. Known as "The Teacha," he pioneered conscious rap and the "edutainment" philosophy - using music as a vehicle for political and social education. He founded the Stop the Violence Movement in 1989 and the Temple of Hip Hop, a cultural preservation society, and remains one of the most prolific and active MCs of his generation with 24 solo albums to his name.
KRS-One released his 24th solo album, 'Temple of Hip Hop Global Awareness', on March 22, 2025, drawing positive reviews for its old-school production and sharp lyricism.
