About

The Animals are an English rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, formed in 1962 around singer Eric Burdon and originally known as the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo. Their raw, blues-driven sound made them one of the leading acts of the British Invasion, and their 1964 recording of "The House of the Rising Sun" reached number one on both the UK and US charts - a record that reportedly pushed Bob Dylan toward electric music. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the band continues to perform in two active incarnations: Eric Burdon and the Animals, and Animals and Friends (led by original drummer John Steel).
