About

The Weeknd is the stage name of Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Abel Tesfaye, born in Toronto to Ethiopian immigrant parents. He broke through in 2011 with a trilogy of self-released mixtapes and has since become one of the most-streamed artists on the planet, known for a sound that fuses dark R&B with synth-pop and cinematic production. His 2020 album "After Hours" is the most-streamed R&B album in history, and in 2023 Guinness World Records named him the most popular artist in the world. He has also been a UN World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador since 2021.
