Tilda's life is far from easy: alongside her mathematics degree, she works in a supermarket and cares for her younger sister Ida. Their mother struggles with alcoholism, both fathers long gone - caught in the treadmill of university, housework, and work, Tilda tries to create something like a safe home for Ida. The swimming pool is their only refuge: Tilda swims her laps there, Ida paddles through everyday life.

Then everything begins to crumble - through the taciturn Viktor and a tempting offer: a doctoral position in Berlin. But what would that mean for Ida?

In her debut novel, Caroline Wahl tells a story of freedom, love, and growing up - with sharp dialogue, irony, and a warmth that shines through her complex characters.
