In the Skin the Time - Emmi Esefeld
DAS BETT - Live Musik Club, Frankfurt, Germany
The work creates a factory of time and sausages through which visitors are both guided and free to move independently. A classical meat product serves a preservation purpose - it keeps what spoils from decaying. In the factory, the casing becomes a vessel for identity and memory. The meat grinder of time wants to be fed without pause.
Depending on their contents, the various sausages have different textures and digestibility. Some continue to be stuffed even as they are consumed. Not all can be excreted individually. Often it requires collective effort.
Between film, interactive installation, audio pieces, sound and performance, Emmi Esefeld brings together meat-industry workers, end consumers and visitors. What do we want to feed through the grinder, turn, process, take in and digest, and what should ultimately be excreted?
