Das Fräulein Wunder - A Musical Comedy by Murat Yeginer
Lessingtheater, Wolfenbüttel, Germany
Post-war Germany: three women pursue a bold dream - to perform a concert before the British Queen in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. To get there, they must first win a singing competition. At the audition, Rosa (a substitute German teacher), Käthe (a seamstress with opera training), and Hilde (a milkmaid, yodeler, and natural talent) meet. Together they are to form a women's ensemble - or rather a women's band, as Captain John McGintley, organizer of the "Anglo-German-Swing Festival", emphasizes.
Murat Yeginer tells this story with gentle humor about new beginnings, solidarity, and the courage to find one's own voice. The piece is accompanied by songs from the 1930s and 1940s.
