Good Morning Wolfenbüttel
Scenes of Liberation
Late April 1945: A woman steps out of a house and squints into the sun. A man walks past, his gaze fixed straight ahead. A child touches the cold steel of a tank. A couple dances across the square.
The theatrical piece "Good Morning Wolfenbüttel - Scenes of Liberation" illuminates the lives of various people in the city and district of Wolfenbüttel in the days and months following April 11, 1945. What does the end of war mean for a Jewish survivor, a forced laborer, an NSDAP official? Liberation or occupation? A new beginning or collapse? How do people meet who were perpetrators and victims just yesterday?
Theatre and video art make the feelings, thoughts, and fears of these characters tangible, opening perspectives on freedom and liberation in spring 1945. At the same time, a bridge is drawn to the present: what notions of freedom shape our society more than eight decades later?
