Götz Alsmann & Chris Hopkins
Konzertsaal Friedenskapelle, Münster, Germany
A piano and a banjo - once a classic combination, today an almost forgotten art form.
Between 1890 and 1930, in the early days of ragtime, pre-jazz and hot jazz, banjo/piano duos were a staple of the era's sound and hugely popular. Today this particular pairing has become a rare musical treasure.
Pianist Chris Hopkins, an internationally award-winning specialist in classic and swinging jazz styles, and entertainer Götz Alsmann, multi-instrumentalist and passionate musical archaeologist, have joined forces in a duo that brings this sonic world back to life. Alsmann draws on his collection of historic banjos from 1902 to 1925, while Hopkins interprets the melodies at the piano with swinging precision. A lively, captivating programme that revives the golden age of the banjo/piano duo.
