Götz Alsmann (born 12 July 1957 in Münster) is a German pianist, singer, multi-instrumentalist and entertainer who has built a career around his own genre - the so-called Jazzschlager, blending swing and jazz with German popular song of the 1910s-1960s. He holds a doctorate in musicology and an honorary professorship at the University of Münster, and spent twenty years co-hosting the award-winning WDR talk show 'Zimmer frei!' alongside Christine Westermann. His studio trilogy recorded in Paris, New York and Rome - 'In Paris' (2011), 'Am Broadway' (2014) and 'In Rom' (2017) - brought him wide recognition, and his releases have appeared on the Blue Note label since 2007.
Alsmann launched a new leg of his '...bei Nacht...' tour with over 30 concerts planned across Germany between September 2025 and July 2026.
His 18th studio album '...bei Nacht...' was released on 31 May 2024, recorded in nine days at the b-sharp Studio in Berlin and produced by Grammy-awarded Philipp Nedel.
The album features eight guest artists from different genres, including Daniel Hope, Roland Kaiser, Yvonne Catterfeld, Nils Landgren and Till Brönner.
Alsmann was awarded the Verdienstorden des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia) in 2019.
After 20 years and nearly 700 episodes, the WDR show 'Zimmer frei!' ended in 2016; Alsmann and Christine Westermann received the German Comedy Prize special award that year.
