(18) Bach's Violin Sonatas

Bach's sonatas for violin and continuo were almost certainly composed in Köthen and performed in a private setting - Prince Leopold was likely the sole listener. The music room of that era, furnished with a harpsichord, served as an antechamber to the prince's bedroom.
