Impressive vocal and organ music fills the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig on 19 September as part of the Orgelherbst festival.

The 106 tonal colours of Saxony's largest organ meet the voices of the BachChor. The double-choir motets "Komm Jesu, komm" and "Der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit", set against the church's remarkable acoustics, unfold as sweeping testimonies of musical proclamation.

Nikolai cantor Markus Kaufmann will perform Mendelssohn Bartholdy's imposing Organ Sonata No. 3 in A major and conduct the BachChor.

About the venue: Nikolaikirche Leipzig

The Nikolaikirche is one of Leipzig's oldest and most significant churches, dating back to the 12th century. Its interior was remodelled in a striking late-Baroque and early-Neoclassical style in the 18th century, featuring the famous palm-column nave. The church became historically prominent as the starting point of the Monday Demonstrations in 1989, which played a key role in the peaceful revolution that led to German reunification. Today it hosts regular services as well as concerts and public events.
