When people wake up in the morning and have to figure out which crisis deserves their attention most today, that takes a toll. Social psychologists now have a term for it: "change fatigue". In his new stage show, Frank-Markus Barwasser's alter ego Erwin Pelzig explores what this widely discussed phenomenon does to us - who we become in a time of fundamental upheaval. Humans have never been fond of change; it has always meant danger, risk and uncertainty. In such moments, realism, reason and composure rarely thrive, while the prophets of doom and apocalypse have a field day, feeding on the fears and longings of frightened people with remarkable success.
But simply describing and decrying the problems is not an option for someone like Pelzig. So he sets out - as always accompanied by his two friends Hartmut and Dr. Göbel - to find a different way of dealing with a world that seems to be losing its mind. The search takes him into the well-charted territory of brain research, the uncharted expanses of the universe, and the thinking of seasoned Stoic philosophers.
Erwin Pelzig: "Sometimes you might think you're left with only two choices: go crazy or go religious. I've tried both. Can't recommend either".
Frank-Markus Barwasser has been performing his artistic character on German theatre stages for over 30 years. The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote: "The voice of the cantankerous Stoic, the combative empath, the down-to-earth reasonable man who still doesn't think he knows everything better - the voice of the normal person who knows he's a little crazy in his own way". Barwasser recently produced the nine-part series "Beim Pelzig auf der Bank" for 3SAT.
