The Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Wernigerode brings a programme built around artistic affinities. The evening opens with Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite, a showcase of his compositional mastery. The Flute Concerto by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach reveals how the composer's son stepped out from his father's enormous shadow and forged a style entirely his own - so successfully that during his lifetime he was actually more famous than his father.
Beethoven's music for Goethe's drama "Egmont" carries a fierce, passionate drive for freedom. Dutch soprano Jessey Joy-Spronk, currently engaged at the Harztheater Halberstadt, and the spoken recitation of Lea Reinhard - a well-known television presenter at Radio Bremen - make this an evening that works on both musical and dramatic levels.
