At 16, he already captivates audiences in concert halls like the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Tonhalle Zurich, and Seoul Arts Center. In every note, you hear the maturity of an accomplished musician. Since age ten, Justus Eichhorn has been performing on major stages, and his Instagram following exceeds 200,000. Tonight, he performs Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto with the WKO orchestra - a work of maturity composed in 1805 while Beethoven was simultaneously writing his Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. The concerto carries a distinctly symphonic spirit, more so than any previous piano concerto in Western music history.
Conducting the WKO is internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and pianist Anna Skryleva. Her "Prelude" for chamber orchestra, opening the evening, premiered just this year in Berlin. Conceived as a musical overture, it unfolds in minutes through interplay of tension, movement, and orchestral colour, with instruments in shifting dialogue creating an open, expectant musical space.
Haydn's "Fire Symphony" brings temperament and wit to the programme. The evening concludes with Mieczysław Weinberg's Suite for Chamber Orchestra, painted in rich colours and moving between melancholy and danceable lightness.
