Brahms - A German Requiem
Evangelische Stadtkirche Aalen, Germany
24 €
Johannes Brahms's "A German Requiem" ranks among the most important choral-symphonic works of the 19th century. It was this composition that brought the then 33-year-old Brahms his international breakthrough.
The texts are drawn from Luther's translation of the Holy Scripture. This is not a liturgical work in the sense of a funeral mass, but a profound piece of music written to comfort the bereaved.
The performance features soprano and baritone soloists, the Kantorei choirs from Aalen and Heidenheim, and a large symphony orchestra. It continues Aalen's long tradition of major choral-symphonic concerts held each year on Eternity Sunday, conducted by Thomas Haller.
The performance takes place in the chancel.
