Ban Ki-moon once said: "The terrorists showed what they fear most: a girl with a book!"

"Malala - Girl with a Book" is a monologue for young audiences, originally developed at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern. It approaches Malala's story with care and curiosity. The protagonist - a journalist - finds himself unable to describe experiences utterly foreign to a Central European, and so begins to examine his own prejudices and stereotypes about Islam. Entries from Malala's blog and newspaper clippings are woven into the dramatic text, creating a piece of striking contemporary relevance: the story of a peer whose courage reshaped how countless people see the world.

Malala Yousafzai is a children's rights activist from the Swat Valley in Pakistan. She first came to public attention at the age of eleven, when she began writing a blog for the BBC and speaking out against the Taliban, who had occupied her home region. She refused to give up her right to education and freedom. In October 2012, Taliban fighters stormed the bus carrying Malala and her classmates, shooting her in the head. She survived against all odds. In recognition of her courage, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 - the youngest person ever to do so.
