Founded in 1974, the Löricker Kammerorchester has grown into a fixture of cultural life on the left bank of the Rhine. Originally based at the Philippuskirche in the Düsseldorf district of Lörick, the orchestra has over the years also performed numerous concerts alongside the local choir.

For more than two decades the ensemble has been resident at the Bethlehemkirche in Meerbusch-Büderich, giving regular concerts in varying line-ups. Thematic programmes such as "Very British", "Bella Italia" and "Mit Pauken und Trompeten" draw on works from the 18th to the 20th century and keep the repertoire stylistically broad. The orchestra takes particular pleasure in introducing audiences to lesser-known works and rarely performed composers.

Alongside purely string-based programmes, the repertoire regularly features solo concertos - often with soloists drawn from within the ensemble's own ranks - and occasional cantata performances. Since 2011 the musical direction has been in the hands of Landeskirchenmusikdirektor i.R. Ulrich Cyganek.

Ansgar Schlei studied Protestant church music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover with Cornelius Schneider-Pungs and Pier Damiano Peretti (artistic organ playing), Hans-Joachim Rolf (liturgical organ playing), Gerrit Zitterbart (piano) and Peter-Anton Ling (voice).
