Coffeehouse of Vanities

European coffeehouses - in Vienna, Paris and Prague - were around 1900 the second home for many writers, musicians and artists. While piano sounds filled the rooms, painters debated colours, poets wrote in notebooks, composers drew inspiration from the rhythm of the city. Between candlelight and stacks of newspapers, stories, melodies and artworks emerged that resonate to this day. And in the midst of it all - the human game: watching and being watched, attraction and repulsion, love and need - sometimes even hatred.

Passionate coffeehouse regulars included Tucholsky, Altenberg, K. Kraus, Beethoven, Mahler, Satie, Chopin and F. Hollaender.

Drawing from this cosmos, three artists - Catharina Marquet (vocals), Mona Creutzer (recitation) and Galina Ryzhikova (piano) - present a bold fusion of music and text - sometimes contemplative, sometimes light.
