For many composers, nature was far more than a subject - it was a refuge, a source of inspiration, and a mirror of inner feeling. This a cappella programme brings together works from different eras and sound worlds, each translating the encounter between humanity and the natural environment into music in its own way.
Fanny Hensel's Gartenlieder and Veljo Tormis's Autumn Landscapes are separated by a century and a half, yet neither work relies on tone-painting - both are rooted in deeply felt emotional reflection. The concert places the festival's theme in a compelling European context.
