MDR-Rundfunkchor, conducted by Alexander Lüken, performs in Halberstadt on Saturday, 15 August 2026 at 18:00 in the Dom zu Halberstadt. The programme "Im Abendrot" is an a cappella concert devoted to nature, bringing together works by Fanny Hensel, Veljo Tormis, and Gustav Mahler in an arrangement by Clytus Gottwald. Halberstadt's cathedral is one of Germany's most significant Gothic churches and provides an exceptional setting for this music. The interior is adorned with fine stained glass and medieval treasures that enhance the atmosphere for choral singing. This is one of two German dates on the choir's tour. Admission is 30 €.

About the venue: Dom zu Halberstadt

The Cathedral of Halberstadt is one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in Germany, built between the 13th and 15th centuries on the site of earlier Romanesque churches. It houses an exceptional treasury with medieval relics, textiles and goldsmith work, as well as remarkable stained-glass windows. The cathedral is also home to the ongoing John Cage organ piece "As Slow As Possible", which began in 2001 and is scheduled to last 639 years.
