Woyzeck

Woyzeck, the hero of this drama, is a poor soldier who is exploited in a medical experiment, mocked by his superior, betrayed by his wife, and cast out by society. Georg Büchner's fragment ranks among the most frequently performed and influential dramas in German literature. Woyzeck, both victim and perpetrator, can no longer withstand the social pressure bearing down on him and becomes a murderer. The killing of Marie can be seen as an act of Woyzeck's self-destruction and the culmination of despair at himself: "Every human being is an abyss; one grows dizzy when looking into it."

The Ton und Kirschen Wandertheater was founded in 1992 in Glindow in Potsdam-Mittelmark by Margarete Biereye and David Johnston after 20 years of theatrical experience with the English "Footsbarn Travelling Theatre". Today the company comprises nine actors and musicians from Australia, Germany, England, Wales, France, and Colombia. Ton und Kirschen performs extensively in Germany, particularly in Brandenburg, but is also frequently invited to international festivals, for example in France, Poland, India, Colombia, Korea, and Morocco.
