By Georg Büchner

Woyzeck is a poor soldier abused in a medical experiment, humiliated by his superior, and betrayed by his lover. As both victim and perpetrator, he cannot withstand the social pressure bearing down on him - his beloved Marie's infidelity drives him to murder. Büchner's fragment interprets this murder as an act of self-destruction and the outcome of profound despair: "Every human being is an abyss; one grows dizzy looking into it." The play ranks among the most frequently performed and influential dramas in German literature.

Ton und Kirschen Wandertheater was founded in 1992 in Glindow (Potsdam-Mittelmark) by Margarete Biereye and David Johnston, drawing on twenty years of experience with the English Footsbarn Travelling Theatre. The company now comprises nine actors and musicians from Australia, Germany, England, Wales, France, and Colombia. Ton und Kirschen perform regularly in Germany and especially in Brandenburg, but are also invited to international festivals - for instance in France, Poland, India, Colombia, Korea, and Morocco.
