Between Dance and Reverie

The programme for this evening traces a musical path between two apparent opposites: dance - full of rhythm, energy and lightness - and reverie - marked by expression, depth and inward reflection. Both poles run through the repertoire in many guises: playfully rhythmic at one moment, lyrically meditative the next, and sometimes both at once.

The works span a stylistic arc from the Baroque to the 21st century, showing how differently composers have explored the sound world of recorder and piano. Alongside well-known names such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Gordon Jacob, the programme includes rarely heard pieces that are small musical treasures.
