The Tricks of Scapin

A comedy by Molière, produced by the Neues Globe Theater.

Scapin, the cunning servant, has his hands full: the sons of wealthy Neapolitan merchants Argante and Geronte have fallen head over heels in love while their fathers were away on business. Leandre is courting Zerbinette, a travelling girl of dubious origins, and Octave has secretly married the penniless Hyacinthe. The trouble is, both fathers had long since arranged for their children to marry each other.

Scapin and his fellow schemer Silvestro step in with tricks and slapstick: the fathers are swindled out of their money, Zerbinette is bought free - and at the end, a surprise awaits that even the wily Scapin never saw coming.

All of this is framed by a story in which Monsieur Molière himself leads his troupe onto the boards that signify the world.
