based on Hans Christian Andersen and Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué
Family musical for all ages from 6 years old, from grade 1
Undine, daughter of the sea king, dreams of the human world. She collects stories about the unknown until one day she takes action herself: she saves the life of young Prince Hans - and loses her heart to him in the process. Driven by this love, she dares to step into an alien existence. She leaves the sea and enters the human world, where everything is different: the rules, the bodies, the feelings.
At the prince's castle, Undine encounters a world that both fascinates and overwhelms her. With her candour, she questions established customs and brings movement to rigid structures. But her hope for a life together wavers when the prince is to marry another.
Between dream and reality, between self-denial and self-assertion, a touching story unfolds about identity, love, and the longing for belonging. "The Little Mermaid" tells of what transformation costs - and of who we are when we risk everything.
Franziska Steiof was a director and author, particularly in children's and youth theatre. Together with composer Thomas Zaufke, she created numerous plays.
"Undine, the Little Mermaid" was nominated for both the German Children's Theatre Prize and the Mülheim Children's Play Prize.
