"Rampen-Sound" - what to expect:
The so-called "Klotzscher Rampe" (Dresden-Görlitz line) is considered one of the most demanding sections of the Saxon railway network. It climbs out of the Elbe valley near Dresden towards Klotzsche, with gradients reaching 15 to 20 per mille across much of the route.
Kamenz station (Saxony) sits at the junction of the Lübbenau-Kamenz and Kamenz-Pirna lines, as well as the former Kamenz-Bischofswerda route, within the town of Kamenz in Saxony. By 1890 it had grown into both a through station and a terminus, with 27 tracks at its peak. The town tunnel right next to the station still impresses today.
Bautzen station - once a branching point for lines to Hoyerswerda via Königswartha and to Bad Schandau via Großpostwitz, Wilthen and Neustadt (Saxony). Today three platforms handle local services. Worth a look is the preserved locomotive 52 8056, stationed at the former freight yard and set to remain there.
Together we'll experience a steam journey along the historic route of the former Saxon-Silesian Railway - steep climbs, fine viaducts, the Kamenz tunnel, and the unmistakable sound of express steam locomotive 01 1104.
A Bundesbahn express locomotive running on the demanding Saxon track network of the former Reichsbahn - a piece of living history!
Boarding point: Dresden-Neustadt.
