The Double Bass and the Trout
Süskind's "The Double Bass" (one-act play) and Schubert's "Trout Quintet". The one-act play draws on one of the most frequently performed works of chamber music: Schubert's "The Trout".
Helmut Thiele, an award-winning actor, presents his signature role in Patrick Süskind's "The Double Bass". In this two-layered one-act play, Schubert's famous "Trout Quintet" plays a crucial role. It is therefore natural to bring these two magnificent works together on stage. "The Double Bass" is a furious lesson in orchestration. A profound psychological portrait of an orchestra musician. An exploration of romantic frustration and a dark glimpse into extinguished hopes. A witty musical history and an entertaining, cabaret-style theatrical experience.
The fabergé-quintett was founded in 2000 by members of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. The ensemble performs at renowned festivals throughout Europe and Asia. Their very first CD recording was awarded the ECHO Klassik prize. Yoko Kikuchi (piano), Rodrigo Reichel (violin), Thomas Oepen (viola), Sven Forsberg (cello) and Peter Schmidt (double bass) tackle Schubert's "Trout", one of the most celebrated works of chamber music, which combines vibrant joie de vivre with lyrical tenderness. The unusual instrumentation and variations on Schubert's famous song "The Trout" make this quintet a musical masterpiece.
