Rochuskapelle - On Historical Trails to the Chapel of St. Roch

Churches and chapels shape the character of Wangen im Allgäu in a distinctive way. Paintings, fountains and sculptures further testify to how the town's residents engaged with faith over the centuries. The highlight of this guided tour is a visit to the Rochuskapelle. From the outside it looks rather plain, but a true treasure greets anyone who steps through the door: a gently vaulted wooden ceiling with 66 painted panels dating from 1598. An unknown artist depicted the life and works of Jesus and the Apostles in the form of a pictorial Bible.
