Sophie Scholl - The Last Days
Westfälisches Landestheater, Castrop-Rauxel, Germany
21 €
based on the screenplay "The Last Days" by Fred Breinersdorfer, drawing on passages from "Sophie Scholl" and "Fritz Hartnagel - So We Don't Lose Each Other"
The play tells the story of the final six days in the life of Sophie Scholl, a resistance activist who, along with her brother Hans and other members of the "White Rose", was arrested by the Gestapo in February 1943.
Drawing on historical documents, interrogation records, and eyewitness accounts, the play portrays a gripping picture of the young student who, despite facing execution, remains unwavering in her convictions. At the heart of the drama are the brutal interrogations conducted by Gestapo officer Robert Mohr, discussions with her brother Hans and friend Christoph Probst, and the dramatic trial before the infamous People's Court.
The drama focuses on the inner conflicts, courage, and moral strength of the 21-year-old Sophie, who openly opposes the Nazi regime and fights for her ideals until the very end. A harrowing work about civil courage, humanity, and the question of how far one can go for one's convictions.
