Jura's Last Winter

"It doesn't matter where we begin to practice trust: with ourselves or with others. We just have to start."
In his new novel, the narrator Edgar encounters the fate of a boy who starved during the Siege of Leningrad at the hands of the German Wehrmacht. Jura left behind a diary that Edgar reads repeatedly, until he begins to believe he knows the boy. Jura becomes a character in the novel, just as Edgar does. Their meeting begins cautiously and grows increasingly intimate as the story unfolds. Between them unfolds an exchange about youth, dreams, literature, mothers, farewell, otherness and closeness - they share their most personal stories with each other.
Edgar Selge erects a monument to a young person brutally murdered by the Nazis and brings him to life for his readers. A moving read, a book of unbridled literary imagination.
