Ringmasters

An ambitious undertaking by the four-member Ringmasters ensemble: a journey through the entire history of vocal music from the Renaissance to the present day. The singers have classical training and are equally at home in contemporary singing; in 2012 they became barbershop world champions. Stylistic leaps pose no challenge for them.

The journey begins in the 16th century, represented by Josquin des Prez and Jacques Arcadelt. Later, audiences will encounter Franz Schubert, Anton Bruckner, and Francis Poulenc, whose songs and choral works were groundbreaking for their era. After a detour into the Swedish choral tradition from which the Ringmasters emerged, 20th-century music provides the climax. Works by such luminaries as Freddie Mercury, Billy Joel, and Paul McCartney round out this compact musical survey with an emotional finale.
