"The Name" is a French play whose 2013 film adaptation won two César Awards and received three nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay. The stage production from 2016 is now considered one of the finest Polish productions of its kind - it blends witty dialogue and vivid characters with moments of genuine reflection.
The action unfolds over a single evening: literature professor Pierre (Szymon Bobrowski) and his wife Elisabeth (Małgorzata Foremniak) host guests in their Parisian apartment. Around the table sit a family friend, trombonist Claude (Marcin Hycnar / Mateusz Banasiuk), Elisabeth's brother - a sharp-witted entrepreneur Vincent (Wojciech Malajkat) - and his much younger pregnant partner Anna (Dorota Krempa).
The gathering seemed perfectly ordinary. But one seemingly innocent question - "Do you have any ideas for a name?" - is enough to turn minor disagreements into a real battle.
