We Don't Die in May. The Story of Barbara Sadowska
author: Piotr Rowicki
Directed by: Anna Gryszkówna
performed by: Agnieszka Przepiórska
duration: 70 minutes
A mother. A social activist. A poet. A colourful bird. A woman fighting against the system and imposed social norms. The mother of Grzegorz Przemyk, killed by officers of the Citizens' Militia. May, Barbara Sadowska's favourite month, became the month of her son's birth and death. Agnieszka Przepiórska portrays Sadowska as she prepares for the funeral of her beloved child. She is overwhelmed by emotions and memories. This is not just a story about death, grief, and farewell—it is also the story of Sadowska's life, restoring her agency. According to the actress, an extraordinarily important aspect of this narrative is her stance after her son's death, when she stands firm in her fight against the entire judicial mechanism of (in)justice.
