The Weavers
Puppet Theatre "Arlekin" named after Henryk Ryl in Łódź, Poland
A performance for audiences aged 16 and above.
"The Weavers" is a concert-performance based on Marta Madejska's book "Weavers' Alley" (2018), which chronicles the lives of female textile workers in Łódź. These women entered the factories as teenagers, and from that moment on, their lives were governed by the factory clock - a spinner had to work "like a horse in a wheel", and her entire existence was divided into three stages: factory, hospital, and cemetery. Poorly paid, sexually exploited, prematurely aged - yet heroines whose labour forced new regulations and sparked a social revolution.
The production features eight actresses from Łódź's Arlekin theatre in the leading roles. Directed by Tomasz Man, the performance is accompanied by specially composed rock music performed live.
