Dark Perversions of Everyday Life — Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź, Łódź

Some country - perhaps Poland. An ordinary day. A bench on a square in front of a girls' high school. Two men, strangely dressed, perhaps in disguise. Who are they? What are they hiding under their coats? What are they running from?

Everyone sees the "world" as it is. Systems enslave, governments lie, ideologies manipulate, the church compromises itself, employers exploit. Progressive dehumanization creates disposable people - we end up on the scrap heap, left to ourselves. Reality destroys dreams, ideals, and dignity. The nightmares of everyday life breed fear, frustration, often despair. There is only one answer: expose them and mock them. Laugh so as not to cry.

Dark Perversions of Everyday Life is a play by Chilean writer, dramatist, and screenwriter Marco Antonio De La Parry - one of the most frequently performed Ibero-American plays in the world, translated into dozens of languages. The text has multiple layers of meaning and hidden allusions, surprisingly universal even in Polish circumstances. The production combines elements of clowning, burlesque, and cabaret, unfolds at a frantic pace, and embraces the absurd.

The Łódź production at the Stefan Jaracza Theatre is the Polish premiere of the play. Direction: Rafał Sabara, set design: Waldemar Zawodziński, starring: Mariusz Siudziński and Mariusz Słupiński. Premiere on the Small Stage: October 4-5, 2014. The production was created as part of the ProScenium Actors' Initiatives Stage. Duration: 75 minutes. For adult audiences (+16 years).
